Resident Review of Apartments in West Houston

Review by Photographer and Current Resident of Lakeside Place Apartments in Houston, TX

I’ve always had my eye on Lakeside Place Apartments, since it’s in such a great neighborhood, and so close to Beltway 8 and I-10. Plus, the space you get for the price you pay is fantastic. Ramin, in the leasing office is awesome; he gave me a great discount when I first moved-in. The leasing staff at Lakeside Place is very personable and has helped me since the day I got there. The management and leasing office in general are known throughout the community for getting things done in a timely manner. I love living at these West Houston Apartments simply for the nature aspect; it’s surrounded by trees and only five minutes from Terry Hershey Park. As a girl in her early 20’s, safety is always a big concern for me when choosing a new apartment home. Lakeside Place is a gated community in a great neighborhood, so you feel a little safer. Besides photography, I love to cook, and the kitchens at Lakeside Place apartments are perfect for it. They have stainless steel appliances, which I love. I also love the private patios. The only complaint I really have has to do with parking, there’s not a lot. That is, unless you buy a parking space for a reasonable fee at the time you submit a lease application. This will insure you always have a place to park and not have to circle the complex in search of a place to pull-in every time you get home. All in all, I really enjoy living at Lakeside Place and definitely recommend it to anyone in the market for a new Apartment in West Houston.

  1. I have lived in various apartments around Houston for over 20 years but the management at this complex is the absolute worst, most incapable, inept, discourteous and rudest that I have ever encountered. They have absolutely NO regard for residents who live here.

Apparently, the people in the office and the maintenance people cannot figure out how to actually talk to each other, so office people schedule maintenance, but maintenance never shows up on the day that the office people tell you. This has happened probably 10 to 15 times since I’ve lived here. I don’t know how many vacation days I’ve wasted, waiting for maintenance people who never show up. When I call the office to check, I’m told that they can’t get ahold of the maintenance people. Seriously? They can’t talk to other employees? It is the most absurd bunch of BS that I have ever heard. Right now, I have a GIANT hole in the drywal under my bathroom sink, that went clear through to the apartment behind me. Their plumber made the hole while fixing a pipe i the wall. He said he would return to fix it, but never did so he just shoved garbage bags in the hole. It’s been like that for months. I continually contacted maintenance to fix it but none of them show up when they are scheduled or tell me that someone else will be out to fix it. They NEVER show or call. The sliding doors outside the washer and dryer are literally falling off the hinges, but maintenance never shows up on the day that is scheduled, so more wasted vacation days for me. When they fall off, I suppose I’ll throw them on the lawn. Maybe maintenance will finally fix them then.

They were supposed to put new carpet in before I moved in, but it is obvious that they didn’t as it is wearing down to the pad in several place and looks completely gross.

There is a drain in the ceiling right in the middle of my shower. Apparently, he AC unit drips there so you cannot take a shower without whatever is dripping out of the AC unit dripping directly on you. I’ve made mainteance requests many times and on the few times that they did show up to fix it, their repair did not last more than a few weeks. I finally fixed it mysef by buying some tubing to cover the hole and run the water to the edge of the tub.

There is MOLD in the AC ducts and growing on most vents. A couple years ago, they were doing “renovations” and they saw the mold then. But, they did not clean the mold or spray anything on it to prevent its growth. They just painted over it. It is growing all over the vents again. No wonder me and my pets are continually sick.

The woman who lives 2 floors down said her apartment was infested with begbugs. She told management, but they have not told anyone else in our building so that we can take preventative measures to keep them from spreading through the walls to our apartments. Thank god the woman told me so I could put spray and powder out to try to keep them out of my apt.

Today, I wasted yet another vacation day to wait for so-called “Preventative Maintenance” that the manager said just HAD to be done today. It could not wait so I stayed home to wait for them. As I suspected, that was another lie. NO ONE SHOWED UP and no one bothered to call to let me know.

I can’t believe so many completely inept or absolutely rude people work at this complex.

EVERYONE should avoid Lakeside Place like the plague unless you just enjoy constant aggravation from the management and staff. Unless you want to waste all of your vacation days waiting on maintenance people that never show up when they are supposed to, you should avoid this place at all costs. And I would not let maintenance in your aparment while you are not there, as other residents have told me that their belongings misteriously disappear when maintenance is there unsupervised. Also, they have walked out and left my front door open. If I was not there, my pets would have been gone.

If you enjoy rude people who have absolutely NO regard for residents, then this is the place for you.

HORRIBLE management, HORRIBLE resident relations, HORRIBLE maintenance and HORRIBLE customer service. I suspect that rudeness towards residents starts at the top with AIMCO management. I have complained several times about horrible staff, yet no one at AIMCO’s main office ever bothers to respond, so I plan to avoid every AIMCO property as well. It is not worth the complete and utter aggravation and wasted vacation days to live in their properties.

In addition, the parking is NOT adequate. The parking spaces were built when the buildings had only 2 floors. They added a third floor to many buildings years later, but did not expand the parking to accommodate the increase in residents. If you want to find a parking place after 7 pm, you WILL have to pay extra to buy a covered parking place. Otherwise, you will be parking outside of the security gates on the street. (And I saw a police officer giving someone a ticket who parked out there last week) The idiotic management here even had my car towed one night when parked outside of a marked space because there were NO other un-reserved parking spaces in the ENTIRE complex.

You will also have to pay extra for water, trash pickup and gas (which I don’t have). They don’t bother to tell you those charges until you are signing the lease. Expect to pay about $60 more per month for that (and it is increasing constantly), plus $30 for a parking space.

If you live on a top floor, be aware that there is NO insulation in the ceiling. I’ve seen up there. There is nothing, so your electric bill will be high. Mine skyrocketed to over $300 one winter….for an apartment.

Also, my car windows were smashed in the parking lot and my radio, radar detector and other things stolen. This complex borders on a very high crime neighborhood, but the management can’t seem to comprehend why I don’t want their employees in my apartment while I am not there, or why I do not like it when they give my key to any contractor or employee to do as they please. Seriously clueless.

Also, everyone wants to bring their dog to my side of the complex to do their “business” (probably because there are more trees). But a lot of people do not clean up after their pets. So, I have to see and smell dog crap every day when I’m walking to my car. I live on a 3rd floor and when it is very hot, I can smell dog crap when I open my front door. I’ve asked management MANY, MANY times to put a doggy station near my building since everyone uses it for their dog “walks”, but it is like talking to a wall.

The stairwells are covered with dirt cobwebs and wasps nests. I’ve asked for them to be cleaned MANY, MANY times, but no one ever does. A wasp, that had built its nest on the stair railing, stung me as I was walking up the stairs carrying box and I nearly fell down the stairs.

I’m paying over $1,000 per month for a 2 bedroom apartment and the management treats residents like crap. You could find a rental house for that and not have to deal with the same BS.
